WrestleMania 34 Thoughts

My family and I spent this past weekend in New Orleans, Louisiana for a glorious four-day weekend filled with all things WrestleMania.

For those of you that don’t know, I am a huge fan of wrestling and the WWE is the biggest wrestling promotion in the world. WrestleMania is the SuperBowl of wrestling; it’s the biggest event of the year and people flock from around the world to attend. Wrestling legends return and it’s a week filled—literally Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday—with wrestling.

I have nothing but positive things to say about our experiences while we were there. WWE really knows what they are doing in terms of organizing a series of events to run as smooth as possible.

If you ever get the chance to attend an Axxess event, I highly recommend it; the blockbuster superstars are, of course, only included in the VIP packages, but General Admission gets you in the door. There are so many interactive elements of Axxess that I didn’t know about until we walked in the door. You can do a superstars entrance with their lights and music, cut your own promo, and even call a match with one of the commentators, not to mention all the live NXT tournaments that you could sit/stand and watch. You also never know just who you might see by just walking around. With all of the independent wrestling promotions in town to benefit from the large audience, I didn’t go a single day without running into wrestlers or legends.

Attending WrestleMania is incomparable to any other sporting event I have been to. The grandeur of it all, especially the entrances, and the atmosphere of a true world event make WrestleMania such a monumental success. The match card this year was sure to promise an amazing night…except for the main event.

This is the third time we’ve seen Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship. Each time Roman has lost, and each time the fans, or WWE Universe, if forced to put up with a champion who disrespects his position. Brock Lesnar, a former UFC champion, has not paid his dues in order to rightfully hold the title. I think Vince McMahon believed that by having a high profile Universal Champion, in Brock, that the WWE Universe would happily go along with it simply because he is a big name. Besides the fact the Brock has an extremely limited repertoire of moves he can actually do, he is a danger to the other wrestlers.

I have read several reports that Brock was not supposed to throw the elbow that caused Roman Reigns to gush blood at Mania, and consequently receive staples later that night. I have read several reports that Brock was not even resigned to WWE when he won the match at WrestleMania. Then it was announced that Roman and Brock would wrestle for the Universal Championship yet againwhen the WWE heads to Saudi Arabia later this month, a match that Roman revealed in his Monday Night Raw after Mania promo found out about when it was published on the Internet.

I am done with this “feud”. I want to see someone, anyone at this point, take the Universal Championship from Brock and bring that title back into the main rotation of things. If your main title isn’t in contention and the champion doesn’t even show up for the main show every week, then you must be doing something wrong. I think the whole NXT card was leaps and bounds better than the main event of WrestleMania, which shouldn’t be the case.

Either get a champion who shows up regularly and knows what he is doing, or the WWE Universe will grow tired of watching the same thing with no different result.

I had a wonderful time at WrestleMania, and my family would say the same. Clearly, the wrestlers put their hearts and souls on the line in order to do what they love and we, the WWE Universe, appreciate that. I will continue to try to go to as many WrestleMania’s as I can in my life. However, I refuse to cheer for a champion who doesn’t act like one.
