UX Coursework Assignments

In conjunction with my UXWritingHub course, I completed a few extra courses on Udemy.com by Dr. Katharina Grimm. I found her explanation of why UX writing is so important the most comprehensive and understandable for someone transitioning from another field.

Dr. Grimm chose to break down her courses into the most common types of UX writing similar to “daily UX writing exercises” and without linking to each other. Below are the assignments I completed during her courses.

404 Error Page: My assignment was to create a 404 error page for a car manufacturer of my choice. I chose Jeep and leaned into their brand voice. I was sure to include CTAs within the page that could continue/restart the user journey.

Success Message: For this assignment, I had to create a success message for purchase at a home decor online shop. My brand voice examples included Ikea, Home Goods, and Anthropologie. I kept in mind what a shopper needs on this page to feel both secure and excited about their purchase.

Password Error Message: My task was to create an error message for an online learning platform in which the user enters the wrong password. Due to security and privacy issues, I chose not to specify which attribute of the log-in screen was incorrect. I also kept in mind that both children and parents might be using this service.

CTA to begin car configurator: I was tasked to create a CTA for a car manufacturer with which the user can start the car configurator, build their own car, and add special features. I chose Mercedes due to its sleek website and brand voice. While all of the CTAs are the same, I gave the user four visual starting points of the most popular Mercedes models.

Empty Slate: In this assignment, I wrote the empty slate text for a contact list in a dating app. I had several popular apps in mind, such as Tinder and Hinge, when writing and mirrored their brand voice. I also kept in mind that new users might be nervous or anxious about meeting new people so I wanted to be as encouraging and relaxed as possible.
