On May 14, 2018, Baylor Men’s Basketball eagerly announced the signing of JUCO transfer Devonte Bandoo from Hutchinson (Kansas) Community College. During his freshman year, Bandoo helped Hutchinson win the 2017 NJCAA Division I national championship with four wins in four days posting a season-high and team-leading 22 points in the finals against Eastern Florida State College.
The 6-3 guard and Canada-native plans to enroll this summer with two years of immediate eligibility remaining. Bandoo is not the first time Baylor has had success with talent from our northern neighbor; past guards Brady Heslip and Kenny Chery also made the move from Canada to Waco to attend Baylor.
This impressive addition brings the 2018-19 signing class to seven incoming players. Bandoo joins fellow JUCO transfer Darius Allen (Melbourne, Fla./Palm Beach State).
The Bears are breathing a little easier as they replenish their depleted bench that was affected by graduating seniors and transfers after the 2017-18 season concluded. By allowing Baylor Basketball to have an above-average number of spots to fill, they are able to bring in talent from different levels and possibly restructure the team. With all the current 2018-19 signees over 6’ and over 180lbs, there will be extra length at the starting line and strength and conditioning program will help the true freshman in the coming years.
The Bears are also welcoming back seniors Jake Lindsey and King McClure as well as sophomores Mark Vital and Tristan Clark. Freddie Gillespie and Mario Kegler will both be eligible after sitting out for a season following their transfer to Baylor.
